What to do if you feel unsafe online

1 min read

Your wellbeing comes first. While Zora Social is built to be a safe, supportive environment, there may be moments when online interactions feel overwhelming, intimidating, or unsafe. This guide helps you take control, find support, and protect yourself.

First, trust your instincts #

If something feels off, believe yourself. Whether it is someone’s tone, repeated contact, unwanted attention, or hostile language — your discomfort is valid, even if others might not see the problem.

You do not need to explain or justify your boundaries. You are allowed to protect your peace.

Immediate steps to take #

If a person or situation on Zora is making you feel unsafe:

1. Stop engaging #

  • Do not respond to provocation or threats

  • Avoid arguments or trying to “explain yourself”

2. Block the user #

  • Visit their profile

  • Select the three-dot menu (•••) and choose “Block user”

3. Report the behaviour #

  • Use the flag icon on their post, comment, message, or profile

  • Select a reason and add details if you wish

  • We will review and take appropriate action

4. Change your privacy settings #

  • Limit who can see your profile and posts

  • Turn off messaging from people you do not follow

  • Adjust notifications to reduce exposure

For ongoing harassment or distress #

If someone is targeting you repeatedly, creating fake accounts, or threatening you:

  • Keep evidence: Save screenshots, messages, usernames, and timestamps

  • Report every account they use

  • Email us directly at legal@zorasocial.uk if the issue continues

We can escalate the case and work with you on additional steps, including content removal or full account restriction.

Emotional safety is just as important #

Online harm is not “just digital” — it can affect your mood, confidence, and mental health. If you are feeling shaken or anxious:

  • Take a break from the app

  • Talk to someone you trust

  • Visit our Support & Wellbeing page for links to UK-based mental health resources

You deserve rest, reassurance, and community.

When to contact authorities #

If someone makes threats of violence, shares illegal content, or invades your privacy:

  • Contact your local police or community support officer

  • For emergencies in the UK, call 999

  • For non-emergencies, dial 101

  • Inform Zora at legal@zorasocial.uk

We can cooperate with official investigations and support your safety.

Zora’s role in your protection #

We take reports seriously. Our moderation team reviews all flagged content, and we are constantly improving our tools to:

  • Prevent abuse

  • Remove harmful content

  • Limit the reach of repeat offenders

  • Provide a respectful space for all users

Your voice helps shape the community. Speak up, stay safe, and know we are here for you.

You are not alone — Zora is a community, and your safety matters to all of us.

How are you feeling?
Still stuck? How can we help?
