What do we mean by “professional use”? #
Professional use on Zora includes, but is not limited to:
-
Running or managing a Community page
-
Posting job or volunteer opportunities
-
Promoting events, courses, or projects
-
Sharing sector insights or experience in a non-extractive way
-
Using Zora to connect with collaborators, partners, or service users
You are still expected to respect the community ethos and treat all users with care and dignity.
Core principles for professional users #
1. Lead with value, not self-interest #
Focus on offering support, guidance, or real opportunities. Zora is not a marketplace or promotional platform. Selling or pushing services without context is not allowed.
2. Use inclusive, respectful language #
Be mindful that Zora users come from diverse backgrounds, many of whom are immigrants or from marginalised communities. Avoid corporate speak or technical terms that may alienate people.
3. Make your Community page people-friendly #
Keep your Community profile clear, informative, and aligned with Zora’s values. Highlight your mission, community impact, and who you serve — not just your achievements.
4. Engage genuinely #
Respond to comments, messages, or questions with warmth and professionalism. Do not automate or outsource interactions in ways that make engagement feel cold or transactional.
5. Post roles or opportunities with fairness #
Be transparent about pay, expectations, and who is eligible. Avoid unpaid roles that do not offer clear benefit, especially for vulnerable groups.
6. Avoid extractive research or recruitment #
Zora is not a research or data harvesting platform. If you are conducting outreach or interviews, you must get consent and clearly explain your purpose.
What is not allowed? #
-
Cold outreach for sales or lead generation
-
Promoting personal coaching or consultancy services without meaningful context
-
Spamming communities with irrelevant content
-
Collecting user data without consent
-
Advertising multi-level marketing (MLM) or pyramid-style schemes
-
Posting jobs without pay or clear benefit to the applicant
Respect Zora’s boundaries #
Zora is a shared space, not a promotional channel. If you are here in a professional capacity, your presence should feel generous, useful, and human. Anything that feels extractive, exploitative, or purely transactional may be removed.
If your work uplifts people, there is space for you here. Just make sure your approach does the same.
