How to join groups and communities

1 min read

Zora Social is powered by the voices of people like you — and groups are where the real conversations happen. Whether you’re looking for support, shared experiences, or local connections, joining a group is one of the best ways to feel at home on Zora.

What are groups? #

Groups are community spaces within Zora that bring people together based on shared interests, needs, or location. Each group may focus on:

  • Neighbourhoods or cities (e.g. “South London Parents”)

  • Topics (e.g. “Finding Work in the UK” or “Diaspora Wellness”)

  • Lifestyles and journeys (e.g. “Newly Arrived”, “Queer Migrants”, “Mums in the UK”)

  • Events or projects

  • Cultural identities or languages

Groups can be public, private, or invite-only — and each one has its own vibe and rules.

How to find groups #

  1. Log in to your Zora Social account.

  2. Click on the Groups tab in the main navigation bar.

  3. Use filters like location, topic, or newest to explore what is available.

  4. You can also discover groups from:

    • User profiles

    • The homepage feed

    • Posts that tag or mention specific groups

How to join a group #

Once you have found a group you’re interested in:

  1. Click on the group name to open the group page.

  2. If it is:

    • Public: Click Join Group and you will become a member immediately.

    • Private: Click Request to Join and wait for approval from a group host or moderator.

    • Invite-only: You’ll need a direct invitation from someone already in the group.

Once you’re in, the group’s content will begin appearing in your activity feed.

What can I do inside a group? #

Each group has its own wall or forum where you can:

  • Post updates, questions, or thoughts

  • Respond to others

  • Share events, links, or media

  • Attend group-specific meetups or initiatives

  • Chat with fellow members

Some groups also have their own rules, moderators, or projects — so take a moment to read pinned posts or group descriptions.

Can I create my own group? #

Yes! If you have an idea for a group that does not yet exist — and you are ready to host it — you can request to create one.
Visit the Create Group page and fill in the details.

Note: Only Hosts, Partner Communities, and Premium Users can create groups. This helps keep group spaces intentional and active.

Tips for meaningful group engagement #

  • Introduce yourself when you join

  • Read the group guidelines

  • Be respectful and avoid posting spam

  • Offer help or insight where you can

  • Use Zora to listen as well as speak
